For the love of reading – My Random Booking
I have loved books since I was a little girl. When I was a girl, most of the books I read came from the library. There weren’t many bookstores in my hometown of St. Louis; in fact I don’t think I went to a bookstore until high school. The only books I owned were the ones my parents gave me for Christmas. I especially remember getting a set of Nancy Drew mysteries when I was around 10 or 11.
I loved reading to my daughter and son when they were growing up. I also enjoy reading to my granddaughter. Reading to them allows me to bring out my inner-actress as I use different voices and tones to tell a story.
My Random Booking is my way of sharing my love of reading with children.
How it Works
I buy new children’s books every chance I get. I mostly buy picture and board books for young children. I carry a couple of books with me when I use public transportation here in Boston.
I notice a child with her or his parent(s) and approach the parents to see if they’d allow me to give a book to their child.
I try to give away one book a week. I hope to be able to increase that number in the near future.
Message to Parents
If you’re reading this website, it means that your child has received a book from me. I hope that you read the book I gave (and others), to and with your child and that you both enjoy the experience. I also encourage you to take your child to the library. It is filled with books, DVDs and helpful, knowledgeable librarians. There is a book on every topic.
Thank you for visiting my blog.
Happy Reading,
Candelaria
